All of our Pre-sessional English (PSE) courses aim to improve your accuracy and fluency in English, focusing on building the language and skills you need to be successful in your studies.
The courses will prepare you for study on your main degree programme by:
- increasing your confidence in using English in academic contexts across speaking, listening, reading and writing
- developing independent learning as well as teamworking skills to prepare you for seminars, group projects, and presentations
- providing you with opportunities to practice and develop your academic English skills so you can succeed in your programme of study and beyond
Available courses
We offer two types of pre-sessional course.
Summer courses
These courses are available to all students who have received an offer to study at Bath but need to improve their English first. There are both 5 and 10 week courses available, and they run in-person on our Bath campus throughout July and August each year.

Online courses for School of Management students
We offer a 5 week Pre-sessional English course exclusively for students joining a School of Management degree programme in January 2026. This course runs online throughout November and December.
